The White Horse Golf Club course outside Kingston in Kitsap County is expected to be completed within days.White Horse is waiting to make an official announcement but folks who have played the course recently report that about four dozen bunkers and several trees have been removed. This will help the greens hold shots that used to run off them.White Horse, which is open to the public, was designed by Cynthia Dye McGarey and had 137 bunkers. When it opened in 2007, Golf Digest named White Horse one of the 10 best new affordable courses in the nation.White Horse hosted the Washington State Amateur last year and only the winner, Jeremy Wendelken of Sammamish, finished under par in the four-day event

There are two problems: 1) Golfers disappear from sight off the tee and the next group doesn't know when it is safe to hit; 2) Hitting their second shots from downhill lies, many golfers miscalculate the distance and hit into the water or the area surrounding the wetlands. They then spend time either looking for their ball or deciding where to drop.Paul Wilkinson, director of golf services for the City of Seattle, said funding is in place to hire a golf architect to recommend changes that will increase pace of play, provide better sightlines and reduce player frustration. It is considered unlikely that any construction will start during this golf season.
